Slovak Magnetic SocietyThe Slovak Magnetic Society (SMAGS) is a voluntary, non-profit scientific and technical association, that involves industrial and also academic interests of the wide public in all areas of the magnetism.

Magnetism is a force that shapes our world – our mission is to bring this knowledge to everyone’s awareness. We aim to connect science, technology, and society so that magnetism serves as a source of inspiration and progress. Together, we are building a future based on science and innovation.

To achieve this mission, we set ourselves the goal

    Promote professional activities in the fields of magnetism, magnetic science, research, healthcare, technology, and education.

    Foster interdisciplinary collaboration among scientists, educators, healthcare professionals, and engineers with a focus on magnetism.

  • EVALUATE

    Organize a competition for students of Slovak universities for the Štefan Jedlík Award for the best theses in the field of applied magnetism and magnetic materials.

  • SPREAD

    Popularize magnetism and disseminate professional information about magnetism to both the general public and the scientific community.

  • ORGANIZE

    Facilitate the Nationwide Magnetic Seminar focusing on technical and applied magnetism and the development of modern materials.

  • ASSIST

    Collaborate in organizing international scientific conferences (e.g., CSMAG, Physics of Materials, Sensorics and Magnetometry), as well as informal professional meetings.

Assoc. Prof. RNDr. Ing. Jozef Onufer, PhD.
President

He is a university assoc. professor and researcher at the Technical University of Košice, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Informatics, Department of Physics. His research focuses on physics, particularly the magnetic properties of amorphous ferromagnetic microwires and the dynamics of domain walls in these materials. His scientific work includes the study of magnetization processes and the development of sensors based on magnetic materials.

Prof. RNDr. Rastislav Varga, DrSc.
Vice-president

He works at the Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice at the Faculty of Natural Sciences, within the Institute of Physical Sciences. He is the head of the Center for Progressive Materials at the Technological and Innovation Park of Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice, where he focuses on research in the field of magnetic materials, domain wall dynamics, and the development of miniature sensors based on magnetic microwires.

Assoc. Prof. Ing. Pavol Lipovsky, PhD.
Secretary

He primarily worked at the Technical University of Košice at the Faculty of Aeronautics, where he led projects such as the development of portable sensory units and the mapping of magnetic fields using unmanned vehicles. His research focuses on electronics, sensor technology, and magnetism. Currently, he is the technical director at RVmagnetics in Košice, a company specializing in magnetic technologies.

Assoc. Prof. Ing. Katarina Draganova, PhD.
Treasurer

She is a university assoc. professor at the Technical University of Košice, Faculty of Aeronautics. She specializes in aerospace technologies, with a focus on unmanned aerial systems and their applications. A significant part of her research involves the application of magnetic sensors, particularly in collaboration with the company RVmagnetics. Her work also includes research on magnetic sensors and their use in aerospace applications.

Assoc. Prof. RNDr. Jan Fuzer, PhD.

He is a university assoc. professor and researcher at the Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice, Faculty of Natural Sciences, within the Institute of Physical Sciences, Department of Condensed Matter Physics. His research focuses on magnetization processes in magnetically soft materials, such as amorphous, nanocrystalline, powdered, and compacted metallic and composite materials, including non-oriented Fe-Si steels.

RNDr. Ladislav Galdun, PhD.
Member

He is a scientist and researcher at the Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice, at the Center for Progressive Materials within the Technological and Innovation Park. He focuses on the development and study of Heusler alloys in the form of glass-coated microwires and nanowires. His work concentrates on their magnetic properties, the magnetocaloric effect, and applications in sensor technology, actuators, and bioapplications.

Member organization of the Association of Slovak Scientific and Technical Societies

The Association of Slovak Scientific and Technical Societies (ZSVTS) is a voluntary, public benefit, non-profit, democratic and non-political association of interest-based professional scientific and technical societies, committees and territorial coordination centers. It represents a membership base of more than 20,000, associated with professional societies that have their members in practically most enterprises, institutes and professional universities in the Slovak Republic. The professional mission of the Association is to help raise the level of science and technology in the Slovak Republic, develop education and international cooperation in the field of science and technology, and solve tasks within the framework of state technical policy.

Memorandum with the Faculty of Aeronautics of the Technical University of Košice

The aim of the memorandum is to create a platform for mutually beneficial cooperation between the Faculty of Aeronautics of TUKE and SMAGS in scientific activities. The Faculty of Aeronautics of TUKE and SMAGS will collaborate in presenting and promoting the results of scientific research activities of both parties, organizing scientific conferences and seminars, cooperating in the organization of student competitions, and popularizing the study of technical and natural science disciplines.

Memorandum with the Faculty of Natural Sciences of Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice

The aim of the memorandum is to create a platform for mutually beneficial cooperation between the Faculty of Natural Sciences of UPJŠ and SMAGS in scientific and promotional activities. The Faculty of Natural Sciences of UPJŠ and SMAGS will collaborate in presenting and promoting the results of scientific research activities of both parties, organizing scientific conferences and seminars, cooperating in the organization of student competitions, and popularizing the study of technical and natural science disciplines.

Framework Cooperation Agreement with the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Informatics of the Technical University of Košice

The aim of the framework cooperation agreement is to create a platform for mutually beneficial cooperation between the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Informatics of TUKE and SMAGS in conducting scientific research activities in relevant areas of interest, as well as collaboration in presenting and promoting the results of scientific research activities of both parties, organizing scientific conferences and seminars, organizing student competitions, and popularizing the study of technical and natural science disciplines.

Agreement with the Slovak Technical Museum

The subject of this agreement is the organization of joint events, the provision of various experiments and methodologies related to magnetism for the presentation purposes of the STM and the physics department, and the promotion of the work of prominent figures in Slovak science and technology, particularly in the field of magnetism.
