Competition for the Štefan Jedlík Award for the best thesis in the academic year 2024/2025 in the field of applied magnetism and magnetic materials
The Slovak Magnetic Society of the Association of Slovak Scientific and Technical Societies announces a nationwide competition for the Štefan Jedlík Award for the best thesis in the field of applied magnetism and magnetic materials. Students from all universities and higher education institutions in the Slovak Republic who successfully defended their final thesis (bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral) in the academic year 2024/2025, addressing topics related to magnetism, magnetic properties of substances, and their applications, are eligible to participate in the competition.
The aim of the competition is to identify and support young professionals engaged in the study of magnetism and to foster cooperation between educators and students of universities and higher education institutions in this field.
Competition Conditions:
- Applications for the competition may be submitted by students of all universities and higher education institutions in the Slovak Republic who successfully defended their final thesis in the academic year 2024/2025, addressing any aspect of magnetism.
 - A thesis can be submitted to the competition only with the written consent of the thesis supervisor or the head of the department that issued the thesis topic.
 - The application, along with consent for the processing of personal data and the full text of the thesis in electronic form, must be sent to the competition organizer’s address: Jozef Onufer, SMAGS, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Informatics, TUKE, Park Komenského 4, 040 01 Košice, by August 28, 2025.
 
Evaluation of the Thesis:
The submitted theses will be evaluated by a three-member committee appointed by the competition organizer and announcer. The theses will be assessed based on the following criteria:
- Originality of the thesis.
 - Relevance of the addressed topic.
 - Practical and theoretical contribution of the thesis.
 - Methodological and methodical aspects of the thesis.
 - Formal quality.
 
The authors of the best theses will be awarded a Certificate of Recognition from SMAGS and a material prize worth up to €200. Notification of the competition results will be sent in writing to all participants in October 2025.
